Overview

Banana ("we", "our", or "the app") is a daily vocabulary and idiom learning app. We are committed to being transparent about how the app works and what happens with your data. The short version: we collect as little as possible, and most of your data never leaves your device.

Data Stored on Your Device

All of your personal learning data — including words you've added, their meanings and examples, uploaded files, and your streak history — is stored locally on your device using a local database. This data is not transmitted to our servers and is not accessible to us. If you delete the app, this data is permanently removed.

Data Sent to Third-Party Services

Certain features require sending content to external services:

Anthropic (Claude AI)

When you search for a word's definition or upload a document to extract vocabulary, the text or document content is sent to Anthropic's API to generate results. This data is processed by Anthropic in accordance with their Privacy Policy. We do not store or log the content you submit for these requests.

Youglish

Round 2 of your daily lesson plays video clips from Youglish, a third-party service that shows real-world usage of words and idioms. When the Youglish player loads, your device connects to Youglish's servers. Please refer to Youglish's Privacy Policy for details.

Data We Collect on Our Backend

To prevent abuse and protect service availability, our backend server may log the following when you make an API request (e.g., word search or document upload):
